Letter from the Superintendent of Schools

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Yesterday, we posted the Ministry of Education’s updated Frequently Asked Questions and BC’s Restart Plan.  This document included a link to the Five Stage Strategy for K-12 EducationCurrently, we are in Stage 4 – this includes in-class learning for children of essential service workers and vulnerable students. Remote and online learning continues for most students.

We understand how difficult it is to take on the role of teacher or tutor. It is our plan that the learning opportunities provided are manageable in a home environment.  Please call or email your child’s teacher if your child is feeling overwhelmed or requiring support to manage learning from home.

For the past four weeks, we have been providing the children of Essential Service Workers an in-school care program at the old Baker School site.  It has been a very safe and successful program.  This week we have invited a few students in grades K-5, who would need special assistance through face-to-face learning, back to school.  All elementary schools will have small groups of students in attendance for a few hours two or three times per week.

Health and Safety remains our top priority and in all our planning for students and staff. We are following the guidelines provided by the Public Health Officer, BC Centre for Disease Control, WorkSafe BC, and the Ministry of Education.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Stay Safe,

Sue-Ellen Miller
Superintendent of Schools

COVID-19    Update for Parents/Guardians

Today’s message is to update you on the work of the District as we navigate student learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All families will have been contacted by their child’s teacher by this time.  If you have not been contacted, please call the school as we might not have your current contact information or phone number.

The return of student belongings has taken place at all schools or will happen next week. Again, if you have not been contacted please call the school or email your child’s teacher.

We know that parents/guardians are taking on a great deal as you work with your children to continue their learning at home. We want to thank you and support you.  On our homepage we have a link to resources created by our teachers called Resources for Learning at Home.  These resources are additional supports not intended to replace any classroom program.

Starting this week learning activities have begun to go home – for some students this is through work packages and for other students it is through electronic delivery. We are working hard to ensure that all delivery methods provide equal learning opportunities for students. Each teacher will work with their students and parents to provide learning opportunities that are manageable.  If you have questions or need help please contact your child’s teacher.

Learning at home is new to all of us and we will get better at it over time.

Stay safe everyone!

Sincerely,
Sue-Ellen Miller

Message from the Board of Education

The Board of Education wants to reassure parents and guardians that the administrative staff of the District are busy planning with our partners to prepare for staff’s transition back to work following Spring Break.
As you know, on March 17 the Minister of Education announced that all K-12 in-class instruction has been suspended in definitely. This means no students will be returning to school on March 30.
The Board of Education and Senior Team continue to be in regular communication with the Ministries of Education and Health to remain current as the provincial plan to address COVID-19 unfolds.
We ask that you to keep an eye on the District website or our Facebook page for updates and for information regarding the District’s continuity of learning plans for students.
Please take care of yourself and do your part in keeping your family and our community healthy.
